The Kleingartner Dairy Farm of Gackle has received the Commissioner’s Award of Dairy Excellence, announced the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.
The Kleingartner Dairy Farm is run by Sue and Ross Kleingartner and their two children. The Kleingartners are currently milking 100 cows, which include seven dairy breeds.
The Kleingartners have a long family history of dairying and have been milking themselves for 26 years. Their grown children are the fourth generation on the farm. The family also raises about 600 head of sheep and 350 head of beef cattle, along with crops to feed their animals.

Yesterday, after learning that Valleyfair would be reopening this year, we asked our audience what else they were hoping would return this summer. A lot of people are wanting to go to Twins' games at Target Field, the Minnesota State Fair, Thursdays Downtown, and Rochesterfest. The Rochester Downtown Alliance is planning to bring back Thursdays Downtown and this morning we learned that Rochesterfest will be returning this summer. The popular community celebration will have the theme Let's Reconnect.
THINK SUMMER: Minnesota State Fair Gearing Up for 2021
Officials with the Minnesota State Fair are busy planing for the 2021 Great Minnesota Get Together, with several scenarios in the works due to the ongoing pandemic.
The 2020 State Fair was cancelled due to COVID-19, for just the sixth time in the festival s existence. State Fair General manager Jerry Hammer says that virtually all State Fair revenue dried up in 2020, and the fair reported an operating loss of $16.2 million. The Minnesota State Fair doesn t receive any funding from the state government.
Hammer added:
From the day we canceled, our priority has been to ensure the future of the fair by holding our operation together. I cannot stress enough how critical our expert staff is to the success of the fair. They’re experienced pros, and there is no fair without them. Our staff is ready to go, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back together at the State Fair.
